We started out with a very worn out warehouse space. Floors were unfinished and washroom entry had two entrances and no door! We needed to create separation from the main warehouse to create a space to work and also a place to store product. The client needed different work areas: desk, work and create, a place to chill, sample racks of merchandise.
When you’re little a bright pink and playful room is great, BUT when you’re a teenager…not so much. We started this room with a need for more storage, this storage bed is fantastic! Then we simplified bedding with new cozy cotton duvet and fresh light + bright curtains. We were trying to figure out how to use this dark wood dresser in new space, it seemed to suck up what little light there was in the room. Simple solution was new drawer pulls and a modern white tray to contrast the wood.
Extending the living space for this family started with extra needed seating, an umbrella big enough to protect against the summer sun and a request to create a wall of grasses.
We started with the outdoor patio sofa, everything else just didn’t work. The chairs were chosen to complement the sofa and with two ottomans they added extra seating when hosting a large group. A cool added bonus, one of the tables turns into a cooler when hosting a party, or just when you need a place to keep things cool. There was enough space for a fairly large offset umbrella, this was great as previous umbrella was dead centre on patio and made socializing difficult.
The addition of clusters of flowering plants was a nice contrast to the neutral furniture. The grasses needed to be tall enough to block the wall but not too tall that it would block the view. We chose these great planters that really just complement the greenery and were super light weight…..but the soil sure wasn’t. The patio decking was not in great condition so we placed a large outdoor rug in place to ground the space.
This room was a super challenge, client needed a guest room, work at home space, and a place to exercise. The overall feel for this space was drama. When you come in here it is really feels like an escape. The wonderful sofa bed is a chaise, a bed, or just a sofa, with a great secret little built in table. When opened the bed pretty much filled the room so all other details were kept to a minimum or low profile. We did a double set of curtains, sheer to diffuse the very strong afternoon sun and blackout curtains for when guests arrive. Amazingly the curtains we found were a very, very close match to wall, so really help tie in this very small space.
This lovely west side townhouse is a fantastic space. In this home we organized storage, painted, space planning, photo wall, and a fun lego project.
Storage is always an issue in small spaces and when you have a family, even more so. Editing is ongoing and as children grow refinements are needed to suite the families changing needs. Closets were re-defined with better storage using every last square inch of space.
The master bedroom initially had a very dark colour on the walls and bulky furniture. With a fresh coat of paint the room looked completely different. The closet was edited and some furniture removed to refresh this lovely space.
Who doesn’t love Lego? There were too many little characters and not enough space, so why not create storage on the wall. This tiny little Lego shelf holds all the important pieces making it a really fun place to create.
With precious wall space and stairwell empty we used this big canvas to create a great family portrait wall, what a challenge, but once it was all done, very impressive.
Fireplace finish didn’t suite the newly painted space, it was too brown. With a subtle faux concrete paint finish, the grey tones complemented the concrete floors and new wall colour.
Lighting throughout the main floor was updated and more storage installed in main closet.
Sometimes spaces become overwhelming and you just don’t know where to start. With this space it needed a major edit as it had become neglected and a lot of things in the space weren’t useable. The goal was to do a major cleanup, remove broken and unnecessary items, create some breathing room in this community office in a residential building.
Originally, there was a large desk that took up most of the space, we replaced it with a large table that would create a less sterile office environment. The office needed to have different uses, meetings for small groups, general office needs and a flexible use area.
This space needed some storage. Filing cabinets were not all working, so paperwork was edited and redistributed to better functioning ones, a wood top tied in the two cabinets, and help create a less sterile office.
The office had a great piece of art, an oil painting of the local community space, but it really didn’t stand out and was lost in the space. A new frame and it looks like a new piece of art.
This home office includes the kids. Two big work surfaces with a blast of colour. A major amount of filing was needed so these filing cabinets fit the job. The impact of large filing cabinets and large freestanding cupboard were toned down with fabulous graphic paper.
As a multi-disciplinary designer, I love to explore different facets of design.
Laptop Folder - This was for a client looking for a different way to present an advertising proposal. I started off making these bags using a thick felt, the piping was reflective and was actually super challenging to work with, the end result was really conducive to the brand.
Styling for Photography - Assisting with styling for a photographer for a seasonal photoshoot.
Chair Redo - Started with a very typical counter stool from Ikea and wow, this fabric was so inspirational to work with, I made new slip-covers as well as some gorgeous little pillows, so loving the brass hardware on these zippers.
Clothing Merchandising - Setting up a small market event, I just wanted to get the merchandise out there, repeat the message and fold everything just right.
Pilates Training Straps - TRX training straps for pilates are refined here with a great design, the straps were designed in a way that they won’t wear out over time, my part was really in the fabrication on this project.
Mini lights + glitter + imagination, it’s always a lot of fun to get in and play with holiday decor. The finished product was a winter wonderland, working with such realistic artificial snow was so amazing. A lot of careful planning is needed to pull off big projects in short time frames for seasonal projects, but the end result is magical.
This was a really great project, lots of chaos at the beginning and a really cohesive work space when complete. Client needed an area to display product samples, to show a full range as well as ‘look and feel’ of company line.
The next challenge was the organization of all product styles. Merchandise was stored in different size containers and on different racks, as the company grew, storage became difficult to maintain. We started with organizing racks, also bought a few more, then itemizing styles vertically by product mix. Now product styles are organized so client can see at a glance which are low in stock or which are not selling. The challenge with this was creating unity in the space using clients own storage and have it tie in with new storage.
New countertop, tile backsplash and extra needed storage were on the list for this kitchen update.
This kitchen had a very typical laminate counter. The quartz countertop really freshened up the space, the white was great reflecting more light in a very dark space. For the backsplash we went with some contrast, concrete was the initial thought, then found this dark grey ceramic. It really stands out against the surface of the counter. New undermount sink helped update this space. Extra front entryway closets were reorganized with better use of space.
